As we know that Information Systems has a wide area related to its. That caused there are many kinds of Information Systems. There are many Information System based on function of organizations. There are also many Information System based on the need of assisting decision making process. This time we’ll talk about kinds of Information Systems based on organizational levels.

Below is the picture of organizational level division:

EXECUTIVE LEVEL (EIS/Executive Information System)

Executive decisions are usually unstructured and are made using information consolidated internal and external information, so the information that’s needed can come from the internal organization and external organization like the environment, the competitors, market, etc. Executive level of organizations usually make a strategic planning for their business. Besides, executive also response to strategic issues related with their business.

Who      :               Executive-Level Managers

What     :               Aggregate Summaries of Past Organizational Data and Projections of the Future

Why      :               Improve Organizational Strategy and Planning

EISs use graphical user interfaces to display consolidated information and can deliver soft data (textual news stories or non-analytical data) n’ hard data (facts, numbers, calculations, etc).

MANAGERIAL LEVEL (MIS/Management Information System)

Managerial decisions are usually semi-structured and are made using procedures and ad hoc tools. In this level, the people from managerial level monitor and control operational activities. Managerial people also support in giving the information for executives. As the picture above, managerial level can be intermediary between executive level and operational level.

 Who     :               Mid-Level Managers and Functional Managers

What     :               Automate the Monitoring and Controlling of Operational Activities

Why      :               Improve Organizational Effectiveness

MISs are used by managerial employees to support recurring decision making in managing a function or the entire business.

OPERATIONAL LEVEL (TPS/ Transaction Processing System)

Operational decisions are usually structured and are made using established policies and procedures. People in Operational Level do routine tasks, include day-to-day business processes and interactions with customer.

 Who     :               Foremen or Supervisor

What     :               Automate Routine and Repetitive Activities and Events

Why      :               Improve Organizational Efficiency
